'We have to pay because there is a sentence'
In this file picture, FpV senator Miguel Ángel Pichetto speaks during a session in the upper chamber of Congress.
Miguel Ángel Pichetto, the head of the Victory Front (FpV) caucus in the Senate, ratified its position to vote in favour of the government-brockered accord with so called “vulture” funds that will be debated in the upper chamber today.
“We have to pay because there is a sentence,” Pichetto said in statements to the C5N news channel adding that “it is important to clarify some concepts that are said to the Argentine society.”
“There is a debt in the US justice and new bonds will be issued to cancel that debt, no new debt will be issued,” the senator pointed out. “Many things are distorted in the debate,” he said and admitted there are “differences” among FpV senators.
“We are in a very different process in which Peronism is the opposition; we have to build a democratic alternative because, on the contrary, we open the door to emergency decrees. We cannot block parliamentary functioning,” he warned.
“The big issue is to normalise the payment to bondholders that have been waiting for more than a year. Argentina has to create the capacity to pay those who entered the restructuring.”
