Argentina under annual IMF's assessment

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich speaks in a join press conference with Health Minister Juan Manzur at the government house.
As the International Monetary Funds (IMF) is set to begin the annual assessment of Argentina’s statistical information, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich explained that it is the country’s duty as a member of the Fund to comply with the information requirements and he highlighted the country’s improvements in poverty rates and Human Development Index.
“Argentina is a member country but not a debtor country of the IMF,” the chief of ministers explained in his daily press briefing at the government house. He pointed out that the delivery of statistical information to the Fund is made on “a regular basis.”
The Fund said yesterday that Argentina has taken all the required steps so far to revamp its economic data but must still meet one more deadline as it seeks to bring the quality of its statistics in line with global standards.
Capitanich highlighted that several multilateral institutions, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the World Bank and the UN’s Development Programme, have praised the country’s positive record regarding the rise of middle class, the reduction of poverty rates and its Human Development Index.
Capitanich added that, by contrast, “in Argentina there is a manipulation (of the statistics) by concentrated groups who seek to sistematically attack the government through made up indexes.”
