'I am not afraid of any gangster judge'
Recalling corruption reports that were aimed at herself and late former president Néstor Kirchner by the time they were running in their home province of Santa Cruz, Cristina Fernández referred to media allegations that this week accused Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández of “masterminding” a 2008 crime connected to the trafficking of ephedrine.
“We have broken the record in matters of complaints and originality,” Cristina Fernández said as she finished to address the nation today, comparing the house of opposition lawmaker Elisa Carrió - where an interview to one of the convicted in the case that targeted Aníbal Fernández was recorded - with a “safehouse."
The head of state questioned the report that was aired on Sunday on Channel 13, owned by the Clarín media group, saying it was based in the sayings of a “prisoner convicted to life,” that sought to “involve officials with a clear electoral intention.”
“These are things that end up in nothing,” the president insisted but warned such “maneuvers” were part of “anti-democratic mechanisms that are triggered in precise electoral times.”
“This is a modus operandi that is happening in the whole region. They used to have task force groups that attacked activists, businessmen who were deprived of their possessions,” Ms. Kirchner said alluding to Argentina’s darkest period, the 1976-1983 military dictatorship.
“They have changed now. As the national security doctrine has fallen because the Berlin Wall fell, now task force groups are defined by a media report, a political cleavage and a sector of the judicial power articulating (the complaint), creating an atmosphere prior to the campaign,” she said questioning opposition sectors that attacked alleged plans by the government to have Cristina Kirchner running for the Parlasur to secure parliamentary immunity.
“To those who thought that, here I am, without immunity. I am not afraid of any gangster judge, or extorting judge. Not (afraid) of judges that hide human rights or money laundering cases of important corporations. The only sentence that would sadden me would be that of history and the people and the only one that is worth is that of the people and history.”
