CFK heads to Russia on trade mission
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Russia''s Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss trade prospects in Moscow this week.
President Cristina Kirchner was flying to Moscow following a formal invitation by her Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Both leaders are expected to hold meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral trade ties.
In statements to media, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández said the president’s trip follows “fundamentally” trade purposes, in a move to “consolidate the (bilateral) relation and encourage possibilities facing new investments.”
“Our country is a place that attracts investments,” the head of ministers said yesterday highlighting a recent announcement by a car manufacturer to settle a production platform in Argentina. “Such level of investment will be maintained and has to be consolidated.”
Aníbal Fernández pointed out as well that Russia has made investments in the hydroelectrical central of Chihuidos in the province of Neuquén. “(The president) travels to put things in the place Argentineans need to continue growing,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, earlier this week, the Foreign Ministry said Buenos Aires and Moscow were likely to sign new agreements that sources indicated would be on nuclear energy, trade and technical-military cooperation.
The signing of an agreement to build a nuclear central in Argentina by the Russian giant Rosatom is expected to be on the Moscow table. Russia has also shown interest in increasing its imports of Argentine food products, mainly dairy and mead products, facing an embargo on perishable food coming from the European Union and the United States.
