Capitanich bashes opposition unions, lawmakers for being 'vulture funds' advocates'
Ahead of a transport strike announced for Thursday by anti-government CGT splinter lead by Hugo Moyano and Luis Barrionuevo, and as the Congresss gets ready to tackle a set of economic measures submitted by the Executive, including the proposed new debt swap, the reform of the Anti-Hoarding Law and a moratorium for pensions, the chief of ministers bashed opposition unions and lawmakers saying they are “advocates and instruments of the vulture funds.”
The official accused opposition leaders and media outlets of “defending foreign interests” instead of backing the government. “There is no doubt that they act in tune with vulture funds’ strategies,” he added.
“The divide has never been clearer (…) Faced to the defense of Argentina’s sovereign interests, they defend the foreign interests of vulture funds,” Capitanich fired.
He welcomed the debate of the new debt swap bill in Congress to take place this week in Congress saying it will reveal vulture funds’ “ruthless lies”. The chief of ministers accused the holdouts of carrying out “a political campaign”, regardless of whether they receive payment. “They do not care about receiving payment. They care about being a battering ram to permanently question this government,” he stated.
Capitanich also criticised lawmakers and business leaders who oppose the economic measures proposed by the Executive saying they follow “a strategy designed by media outlets which in turn are concentrated economic groups” that make “false” statements “permanently and sistematically.”
He also rejected claims that the bill is inspired by Venezuelan economic policies as “completely false” and stressed that those assertions were based on “slogans” spread by “neoliberal” factions.
“We need the State’s regulatory ability because it is the only one who works for the common good, because it is run by a government chosen by the people’s will,” the official added in defense to the Executive’s reform bills.
