Four opinion polls give New Democracy narrow lead over SYRIZA
Four opinion polls conducted for Sunday newspapers give New Democracy a lead over SYRIZA ahead of the June 17 elections.
Most polls conducted since the May 6 polls had shown the leftists ahead but Sunday’s surveys indicate the conservatives may be mounting a comeback following ND leader Antonis Samaras’s efforts to broaden the party’s appeal.
A Kapa Research poll for Sunday’s To Vima has New Democracy on 25.8 percent, SYRIZA on 20.1 percent and PASOK on 13. It also indicates that the Communist Party (KKE), Independent Greeks, Democratic Left and Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) will enter Parliament.
An Alco poll for Proto Thema newspapers has ND on 25.6 percent and SYRIZA on 22.9. PASOK is in third on 14 percent and the other five parties are also seen as entering Parliament.
A Marc survey for Sunday’s Ethnos gives New Democracy 25.2 percent and SYRIZA 23.2. PASOK has 12.6 percent. The poll suggests another six parties, including the liberal coalition of Dimiorgia Xana (Recreate Greece) and Drasi, will make it into Parliament.
The Marc poll suggests that 21.1 percent of Greeks want the country’s EU-IMF loan agreement to be cancelled, while 64.8 percent are in favour of renegotiating the deal.
An MRB poll for Real News indicates that ND and SYRIZA are neck and neck. It has the conservatives just in front on 23.3 percent and the leftists on 23.2. PASOK has 13.8 percent and another five parties are seen entering Parliament.
Almost nine in 10 Greeks questioned by MRB want Greece to remain in the eurozone.
