Eurogroup set to point to an extension to bailout program

Eurogroup set to point to an extension to bailout program

By Sotiris Nikas
Talks between Athens and the eurozone resume on Monday following the results of the Greek election, as the Eurogroup is meeting in Brussels, with the participation of outgoing Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis, and the timetable for the new government will be discussed.
The council of eurozone finance ministers will be able to send its first message to the new Greek administration, discussing the possibility of an extension to the bailout program, while the next milestone will be on February 4: That is when the governing council of the European Central Bank will convene to re-examine the supply of liquidity to Greek banks through emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) from the Bank of Greece.
Up next is the EU summit on February 12, when Alexis Tsipras will be able to meet the other heads of state and government in the bloc and present his policies, while receiving their reaction.
The following Eurogroup meeting is scheduled for February 16, when the eurozone finance ministers will likely advise Greece to ask for an extension to the bailout program.
