Capitanich denies Sovereign Payment law abrogation
Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich “categorically” denied rumours about government’s plans to abrogate the Sovereign Payment law, passed last September to enable Argentina to resume debt payments to bondholders despite US Judge Thomas Griesa rulings.
“I would like to categorically deny (rumours) of any sort of initiative by the government before Congress to reform the Sovereign Payment law,” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at the government house.
He described the versions published in several newspapers during the weekend, which accused the government of secretly working to abrogate the law in order to renegotiate with bondholders in January, as “blatant maneuver” designed to “encourage speculative actions.”
