Gov't fires back at ATFA, Germany's Finance Minister over debt battle

Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich said that “Germany has always had a hostile stance against Argentina” on the country’s battle against its holdout creditors. He fired back at the latest ad published by the American Task Force Argentina (ATFA) that quoted German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble who had described Argentina as “an example of lack of solidity” last month.
“The minister’s opinion is no coincidence. Germany has always had a hostile stance against Argentina (over its debts),” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at government house.
“That hostile stance is in the end favourable to vulture funds,” the Argentine chief of ministers said and criticized great world powers for not taking strong stances against vulture funds. “It seems that the governments are co-opted by financial groups and vulture funds that condition their will and comments,” Capitanich stated.
The ATFA’s ad published today in local newspapers describe Schauble’s remarks as “whise” and say it is an example of international criticism against “president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s despise for US Courts and Argentina’s refusal to pay its debts.”
