July 17, 2013 Dear Supporters, I write to bring your attention to an important matter related to Argentina and legal developments before the U.S. courts. In the most recent case of the Republic of Argentina versus unpaid creditors, Christine Lagarde, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has announced her intention to file an amicus curiae from the IMF in support of Argentina's recent petition to the Supreme Court to hear an appeal to its recent defeat in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. We encourage you to call the Department of Treasury requesting they confront Ms. Lagarde on her effort to intervene in this judicial process. Despite the fact that this is an unprecedented move by the IMF, and an end-run around the United States, Argentina has refused to honor more than 100 court judgments in the U.S. alone and has told the court that the country would never abide by U.S. court judgments. This is not an actor that needs defense from international organizations. Aside from the country's utter contempt for U.S. law and contracts it willfully signed, Argentina has also been sanctioned by the IMF for continuously falsifying its economic statistics.
